I’m going to try again to make a flight to Sofia this morning. Although I’ll just be there one day, they say I must try because I’ll not be able to reroute the ticket if my flight does actually leave tomorrow and I’m not on it. I’d have to purchase a whole new ticket.
You should have seen the airport in Bucharest. People sitting and laying everywhere. Some people were there for days. Media from around the world was there and I got interviewed for a news report, “Where are you going, what happened, how will you get there now, what will you do if that doesn’t work?” I wonder did anyone have the answers to these questions? A guy from India was interviewed right before me and he had been trying to get out 4 days now. The reporter said he was fortunate that he owned his own company and could afford to go to a hotel every night. I saw 5 nuns that looked like they were sleeping in the terminal.
I’m sick…as we say in Texas “sicker than a dog.” Why do we say that? I’ve never thought about that at all before. Must be all the unknown Romanian drugs I’m taking. Unfortunately none of them are antibiotics. I feel like I have the flu but I’m not saying that to anyone because I don’t want them fussing over me so much. I feel bad enough that we are going back and forth to the airport so much. I took two Tylenol PM’s so hopefully the benedryl in that will help my situation too.
I left /Gelu some money today and they were begging me not to but I just had to. He took all day with me and had to work late. They buy the children fresh food every day and he was with me at the airport so he had to come home and do that afterward. He is very dedicated, besides being the cutest personality ever! I’m thankful for Gelu and his fatherly ways with these children. I just feel so bad about his having to haul me around in this volcano mess.
Gas is about USD 5.00 a gallon here the best I can calculate. So the people in the US have gas half that and can afford it and complain like crazy! No one likes high gas prices but this is ridiculous. Also half the time everything smells of diesel when you are driving around. There are so many transport companies delivering goods here and there. Gaesti is in-between Bucharest and other cities so the trucks all come through here.
The camera situation was a little disappointing. I blew out my flash and my battery charger. Got new battery charger but the flash will have to be fixed when I return home. I have dirt on my sensor so there are spots on my pics that will have to be photoshopped out.
But….I had a fabulous trip, the best one ever. I got to be with my BFF Simona and I have so much to tell for a later time.
I must go now 4:30 is here!. Clonk clonk down the stairs with the bags again. Ohhh my back! This time I’m going to not say goodbye and maybe it will happen!!! xoxox to everyone! I miss all of you that are reading this!
Lori, I do not know how you can write so wonderfully being sick. Little did you know that on this trip, you would be interviewed about being stranded due to an Icelandic Volcano of all things! Prayers for healing.
God Bless,
Lori H.
I know it is crazy, I took a pic of the man who interviewed me. When I get home I can make everything come alive with the photos…..lol I hope, of course I did have those camera issues….
hi lori,
i’ve been following your journey with such interest! romania, the hoa, the kids, the wonderful people who work there, just amazing. love your stories, they bring everything to life for us back here in the states.
safe travels -- seriously, who would have ever imagined such a situation.
can’t wait to hear about bulgaria, however brief, and then, of course, HUNGARY!!
i hope you feel better soon, like, right now!
take care of yourself and best wishes for your health & your travels.

It is so great to hear from you Linda, right now I’m playing everything moment by moment. I’ve missed all my Sophia flights and couldn’t get on the train. I don’t want to get stuck in Budapest alone so I’m in a quandary. More later….
