{"id":351,"date":"2010-06-03T12:30:16","date_gmt":"2010-06-03T17:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thespicytexan.com\/travel\/?p=351"},"modified":"2010-06-04T14:31:57","modified_gmt":"2010-06-04T19:31:57","slug":"arrival-to-uganda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thespicytexan.com\/travel\/arrival-to-uganda\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrival to Uganda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I met up with Katie, Robert, Teddy and Isaiah.\u00a0\u00a0 They were delayed the whole way.\u00a0\u00a0 They got to the gate just in time to get in line for boarding.\u00a0\u00a0 The kids were so good on the plane.\u00a0\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t believe how quiet they were for the whole trip.\u00a0\u00a0 They are darling children.\u00a0 We had a really interesting last hour and a half of the flight.\u00a0 A guy got sick on the plane and couldn&#8217;t make it to the bathroom and ended up wretching on the floor right behind our seats.\u00a0 Katie is about 15 weeks pregnant.\u00a0 Sounds and smells could make her go at any moment.\u00a0\u00a0 I was so happy we put her away from everything against the window.\u00a0\u00a0 There was a reason!\u00a0\u00a0 The poor guy finally was able to get off the floor with his barf bag in hand, and thankfully our damage was minor.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 About 20 min later, in fact about every 20 minutes he began his ritual again sitting a few rows up, fasten seat belt sign on, and that was the only sound to be heard in the plane.\u00a0 I really felt sorry for the guy next to him. \u00a0 I&#8217;ve been in that very position before trapped against the window. \u00a0 It is always a horrible situation when someone gets sick mid-air, even worse to hear and smell a grown man with no volume control, puke.\u00a0\u00a0 YUK.\u00a0\u00a0 Thankfully I have an iron stomach.<\/p>\n<p>We arrived and bought our visas through the visa line at customs with no issue.\u00a0 My driver Jack and my other driver Godfrey&#8217;s wife Tina were there smiling and hugging and welcoming me to Africa.\u00a0 Godfrey took a family on a Safari this week and won&#8217;t be back for a few days.<\/p>\n<p>Tina is also pregnant and due in November.\u00a0\u00a0 She is so tiny and cute!\u00a0 We drove to the guest house where I was greeted by the manager,\u00a0 He showed me to my room, and I was surprised to know there were three beds in there. I have my own toilet and shower (self contained) this house services missionaries and NGO workers going out to field and is a home base for those.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is a Continental breakfast at 7:00am every morning.\u00a0 Winnie is the darling cook there and she is so sweet and helpful.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There are people here from Germany, Switzerland, Australia, UK and US that I&#8217;ve met so far.\u00a0\u00a0 There is one adoptive parent staying here with his little 5 year old daughter, and hopefully they will be leaving on Tuesday after their visa interview.\u00a0\u00a0 I met another adoptive dad with his two daughters as well tonight, he may also be going home next week.
